In STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, Finn falsely claimed to be a "big deal in the Resistance," but by the time STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI rolls around, the former stormtrooper will no longer have to fake it. John Boyega spoke with Entertainment Weekly recently and said that after helping to destroy Starkiller Base and facing off against Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Finn's exploits will definitely have the Resistance talking.

The funny thing is, between VII and VIII, Finn’s now a big deal! He is now a big deal. Imagine that – you get taken down by Kylo Ren. Think about what the gossip’s going to be like in the Resistance. ‘Oh, that’s the guy that got slashed down by Kylo?’

Boyega continued by winking and waving at imaginary Resistance fighers. "‘How you doing, guys? How you doing? Yeah, I was there. Then the Falcon picked me up… Oh yeah, I knew Han Solo by the way. We were pretty close.’ All that kind of stuff. They have a fan moment when they see him." Before Finn gets to soak up all that praise, he'll have to recover from the injuries he sustained during the finale of THE FORCE AWAKENS after he met with the bad end of Kylo Ren's lightsaber. "Finn’s in a bad way at the end of VII. He has a lot of issues. He got slashed with a saber, and that took him down real hard, so he’s in a coma," Boyega says. "That suit, that whole thing helps him to recover. But we’re not sure whether that means he’ll wake up." Of course he'll wake up, but Boyega teases that there will be "some additional few things that need to be done to make him mobile. He’s definitely in a place where he needs some help."

With Rey (Daisy Ridley) off training with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) on Ahch-To, Finn's new companion in STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI will be Resistance mechanic Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran).

It’s Finn and Rose, they’re on a massive adventure. It’s a big mission they need to complete. The Resistance is under immense pressure, and it’s time for them to get a bit of help. That’s where Finn and Rose come in, and they’re thrust into a crazy adventure.

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI will hit theaters on December 15, 2017.
