After years of expanding his horizons as a filmmaker, delivering the thriller RED STATE and camp shock films TUSK and YOGA HOSIERS, Kevin Smith is ready to bring back his stonerific, Quick Stop-chilling heroes of man – Jay and Silent Bob – back to the big screen. After the director announced earlier this year he was hard at work going back to his roots for another adventure with the duo, he has taken to social media again to say the film will kick off production this fall. Snoochie Boochies, indeed.
Smith took to Twitter to post a photo of Jay and Bob standing outside the Miramax lot to announce that he will begin shooting JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT this fall. Take a look and let the nostalgia wash over you!
16 years ago, #JayAndSilentBobStrikeBack was released in theaters. And this Fall, we shoot a follow-up flick called #JayAndSilentBobReboot! pic.twitter.com/bULHxzX3aj

The last time we saw Jay (Jason Mewes) and Bob (Smith) was in CLERKS 2 in supporting roles, and before that, it was in their own 2001 movie, JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK. After his horror flicks and directing several episodes of THE FLASH and SUPERGIRL on The CW, Smith took to Instagram earlier this year saying he wanted to "play with my old toys again," posting an internet-breaking photo of his laptop showing the title page of his new J&SB flick. He described the movie as "a fun flick in which the Jersey boys have to go back to Hollywood to stop a brand new reboot of the old "Bluntman & Chronic Movie" they hated so much. It's a tongue-in-cheek, silly-ass satire that pokes fun at the movie business's recent re-do obsession, featuring an all-star cast of cameos and familiar faces!" We have no word on who else will show up, but Smith is a fast worker and I can imagine he will post and announce stuff like a madman. One piece of info I can share, though, is that I believe I hear the music of "Goodbye Horses" in the distance.
In all honesty, I am not a fan of Smith's recent work, and for the sake of avoiding a rant, I'll leave it at that (but seriously what the f@ck was YOGA HOISERS?). But I enjoy the majority of Smith's earlier films, and he's at his best when he's doing more personal work, even if it's teaming up with his best friend for a whacky, crude adventure. The duo will be welcomed back warmly, and we need their wise, thoughtful observations more than ever. I wonder what Jay thinks of GAME OF THRONES?
The film could hit theaters as early as next year.
