James Gunn talks new characters, or lack thereof, in Guardians Vol. 2

Once a film is a success, particularly a Marvel film, there's a certain expectation that the inevitable sequel will amp up the number of characters to give you "more bang for your buck". However GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY director James Gunn seems to be resisting the urge to pack the upcoming sequel with new characters, preferring to give even more attention to the core group.

James Gunn fielded a few questions on his Twitter yesterday where he revealed his thoughts on how many new characters would be joining GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2.

That's not to say that there won't be any new characters joining the team in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, Gunn was asked whether or not there would be any new female members turning up for VOL. 2 and he responded with a firm "maybe".

James Gunn has already denied that Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel will be in the sequel as Gunn believes that it's important that Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) remains the sole "earthling" in the franchise, at least for now. As for Hulk, one of the other characters who has popped up on many of your GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 character wishlists, Gunn once again reiterated that we will definitely not see the giant green rage machine in the sequel.

James Gunn, who said that he is feeling way less pressure this time around, recently polished off the "risky" second draft of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, and is currently in the process of getting the rights for the twelve chosen songs which will make up Awesome Mix Vol. 2. Rock on.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 opens on May 5 2017.
