Quentin Tarantino has spoken of his love of STAR TREK before, even saying that he'd be down to direct a STAR TREK film at some point earlier this year, and now, Deadline states that the director has come up with a "great idea" for a STAR TREK movie which he has shared with J.J. Abrams.
According to the report, the idea was apparently exciting enough that J.J. Abrams is planning to assemble a writers room who will hear Quentin Tarantino's pitch and begin putting together the film. Obviously this is still very early, and neither Paramount nor Quentin Tarantino have responded, but if all goes as planned, it's even possible that Tarantino might direct the film himself, with J.J. Abrams producing. It's not known whether this would be another sequel in the Kelvin Timeline, following last year's STAR TREK BEYOND, or something entirely new, but the thought of Tarantino putting his spin on STAR TREK is very interesting indeed. Even if this does move ahead, both J.J. Abrams and Quentin Tarantino are rather busy at the moment, with Abrams prepping STAR TREK: EPISODE IX and Tarantino about to begin casting his as-yet-untitled ninth and penultimate film. Would he really finish off his career with a STAR TREK movie?
Paramount officially announced a fourth STAR TREK film even before STAR TREK BEYOND premiered, but the sequel's lackluster box-office seems to have put a damper on things as we haven't had an update for some time. What we did know about the film was that it would have seen Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) crossing paths with a man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born: his father (Chris Hemsworth).
