Is Benedict Cumberbatch being considered for multiple DC Comics roles?

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Well, this is an interesting turn of events. After rumors had Benedict Cumberbatch in line for the role of DOCTOR STRANGE for Marvel, now comes word that he may be considered for not just one but two roles for Warner Bros and the DC Cinematic Universe. BBC Newsbeat and CinemaBlend are reporting that Cumberbatch is being considered for the role of Martian Manhunter in JUSTICE LEAGUE or a major villain in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE.

Cumberbatch was asked about the Martian Manhunter role at the GQ Awards and seemed aware of the rumor but seemed to indicate the BATMAN V SUPERMAN villain role was news to him. In either case, this seems to be one of the first times Benedict Cumberbatch has been directly linked to a DC movie role. What makes it even more intriguing is the fact that the actor was not direct in discounting the Martian Manhunter one as he did with the DOCTOR STRANGE ones.

After his villainous turn in STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, Cumberbatch has been named in connection with practically every major franchise in Hollywood. He has worked steadily in supporting roles or leads in smaller films like THE FIFTH ESTATE and THE IMITIATION GAME. Hopefully this pans out as a major coup for Warner Bros to get such a popular actor for their growing cinematic universe.
