As we know, TERMINATOR: GENISYS was intended to kick off a brand-new TERMINATOR trilogy, but thanks in part to the disappointing domestic box-office, those plans were put on hold and then finally cancelled once James Cameron returned to guide the next stage of the TERMINATOR franchise. I can't imagine that many people are choked up that we won't get to see how the GENISYS trilogy would have turned out, and one person who definitely isn't shedding any tears about the reboot's demise is Emilia Clarke, who played Sarah Connor in the film.
While speaking with Vanity Fair, the actress spoke of the troubled production on SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY, before turning attention to the even more chaotic production of TERMINATOR: GENISYS. Emilia Clarke said that she saw her Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor get "eaten and chewed up on Terminator. He was not the director I remembered. He didn’t have a good time. No one had a good time." In fact, the production was so disastrous that the crew of FANTASTIC FOUR (and you remember what a gem that was), which was filming nearby around the same time, allegedly even had jackets made which read: AT LEAST WE'RE NOT ON TERMINATOR. Yikes. This wasn't an experience which Emilia Clarke was eager to repeat, so when TERMINATOR: GENISYS under-performed at the box-office, the actress admitted that she was "relieved" that she wouldn't need to return for any sequels.
Plot details about the upcoming TERMINATOR sequel/reboot are still unknown, but we do know that it will be ignoring much of the James Cameron-less part of the franchise, with the director even implying that it would be the true sequel to TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton will "anchor" the story, much like the Original Trilogy characters in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, and the film will hit theaters on November 22, 2019.
Emilia Clarke will soon be seen as Qi'ra in SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY on May 25th and you can check out a review from our own Chris Bumbray right here.
