So much for there not being any resurrections this time. Back in September, some unconfirmed news broke that Disney was planning to develop a miniseries around the God of Mischief, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), who audiences had just seen get choked to death by Thanos (Josh Brolin) in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. But now what was once a rumor is now a fact, as Disney has confirmed they are planning to bring Loki back for his own show on their streaming service, Disney+.

Disney put out a large release yesterday on their website updating the world on some of the new content that would be coming to the streaming service. The big news was that they are developing a series around ROGUE ONE’s Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), but in the middle of it all, they confirmed that a Loki series was in the works with Tom Hiddleston returning. This begs the question of what the hell will AVENGERS 4 do to bring back all these characters who were wiped out over the course of two and a half hours. Either way, we'll get to see how Loki act mischievously around people who aren't Thor (Chris Hemsworth) because lord knows the God of Thunder has put up with enough of his shenanigans.
Until this confirmation, it was only rumored that the show was being made, and the Loki news broke along with information that Disney was also planning a series around Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). As well, news broke in the last month that the studio was also planning a team-up series around Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) and Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie), which also hasn't been confirmed. The solidifying of only the Loki show is a bit curious given the news swirling around these other two shows, and I’m wondering if they’ll confirm those shows later once we get closer to the release of AVENGERS 4.

The whole goal with a show like Loki’s is for the character to get their own limited show (less than 10-episodes) with a large production budget so they can have their own outing that moves their story forward without cramming them into a movie somewhere. The series will take place inside the MCU realm with Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige overseeing the project – as he does with the movies – ensuring the series gives viewers the same grand, cinematic experience they get from the movies. So far no dates, production schedule or director(s) has been announced, but that soon may change as Disney plans to launch their service in late 2019.
