Benedict Wong teases a few changes to his Doctor Strange character

Benedict Wong Doctor Strange

The upcoming DOCTOR STRANGE has already put a few different spins on the comic characters that it's drawing from, such as the race and gender swapped Ancient One played by Tilda Swinton, and it looks as though Doctor Strange's trusty companion is due for an update as well. Benedict Wong is playing Wong in DOCTOR STRANGE, who, in the comics, plays more of a subservient role to the sorcerer. When it comes to the character's cinematic incarnation however, Wong tells Den of Geek that he definitely won't be filling the "tea-making manservant" role.

We’re heading in a different direction. He’s more of a drill sergeant. There isn’t any martial arts for Wong in Doctor Strange actually, he’s more of a drill sergeant to Kamar-Taj. He’s one of the masters of sorcery.

If, like me, you're a little rusty on your Doctor Strange lore, Kamar-Taj is a small isolated community in the Himalayas which is home to sorcerers and mystics, including the Ancient One. Although he hasn't yet had a big mainstream breakout role, Benedict Wong has always been a welcome presence in whatever project he's involved with, including PROMETHEUS, Marco Polo, THE MARTIAN, and of course, The IT Crowd.

DOCTOR STRANGE is set for a November 4, 2016 release.
