After Edgar Wright exited ANT-MAN earlier this year, Adam McKay was one of the filmmakers Marvel was considering to replace him as the movie’s director. While McKay decided not to take the job, he was hired to rewrite the script for ANT-MAN.

But it sounds like there’s still a chance Adam McKay might end up behind the camera for a Marvel movie. In an interview with CraveOnline, McKay says he’s had talks with the studio about possibly directing one of their upcoming films.

I just did a big rewrite on Ant-Man with Paul Rudd and had such a great time working with them that we’re kicking around ideas. But yeah, maybe I would take on one of the characters so we haven’t locked in anything, but discussions are definitely going on.

I would have been fine with Adam McKay directing ANT-MAN, and would love to see him helm a Marvel movie. But exactly what ideas/characters have they been kicking around? Inhumans? Black Panther? Ms. Marvel? Howard the Duck? Ok, so I’m half-kidding with that last one, but I’m definitely interested in learning more about Marvel and Adam McKay‘s ongoing discussions.

ANT-MAN opens on July 17, 2015.
