24 movie not likely to hit theaters any time soon

Jack Bauer must be losing his mind not having saved the world in almost two years. Damn it.

It appears that budget rifts between 20th Century Fox and Imagine Entertainment have stalled production on the 24 movie that was set to film this year. Fox apparently wants a cost below $30 million while Imagine is looking for over $50 million. For a show that delivered quality drama and action scenes in two dozen episodes a year, I am surprised they are squabbling over twenty million dollars.

With Kiefer Sutherland committed to his new series TOUCH and director Antoine Fuqua (TRAINING DAY) restricted to filming during the 7 week hiatus period for the show, there is a limited window for the movie to get made. If the two sides don’t reach an agreement soon, filming would not happen until 2013 at the earliest.

I watched every episode of 24 when it aired and was a fan of most of the seasons. While it did get somewhat repetitive towards the final seasons, I found myself watching again and again. Jack Bauer is just too cool of a character to not make it to the big screen.
