The Joseph Gordon-Levitt action film PREMIUM RUSH is getting two new stars from two completely different ends of the acting spectrum.
Michael Shannon, who was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in REVOLUTIONARY ROAD, has signed on to play Bobby Monday, the film’s villain, a crooked cop desperate to get his hands on a package and Gordon-Levitt’s bike messenger is delivering.
On the other hand, former Hooters waitress turned “Real World: San Diego” cast member Jamie Chung has signed on to play the film’s female lead, Nima. She’s an Asian college student who hands off the package in question to Gordon-Levitt (and winds up being something of a love interest).
The film will be directed by David Koepp, who co-wrote the script with John Kamps. Koepp will use a visual technique he’s calling “Bike-O-Vision” for the action sequences when JGL is zipping through Manhattan on his bike. We’ll get a POV shot from the bike and the action around will slow down to a crawl while certain aspects of the route are highlighted on screen as we see what the character is deciding as he rides.
