I still remember interviewing Jet Li (one of my very first celebrity encounters at JoBlo.com) for KISS OF THE DRAGON and thinking, this guy has what it takes to be the next Bruce Lee. Of course there was some naivete on my part but still, Li's career has not quite panned out like I thought. There were a lot of misfires and he's not even the most sought after actor surnamed Li (Gong takes that prize). But Li is looking to make another stab at American stardom with a starring role in THE MUMMY 3. Li will play the villainous Mummy in the film, which will be directed by Rob Cohen (STEALTH). Stephen Sommers, who directed the first two MUMMY films, will produce. Hollywood Reporter says of the third installment, MUMMY 3 begins in "ancient times before moving to a post-World War II setting. It is also known that one sequence involves the famous terra-cotta warriors, the collection of 6,000 men and their horses that were originally constructed to protect the tomb of an emperor." I never gave much of a shit about the MUMMY films but I'm always game for seeing Jet Li back on screen. His last American film, WAR (formerly titled ROGUE), is set for release in September.
Extra Tidbit:
Li turned down starring roles in both THE MATRIX RELOADED and CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON.

It's interesting, if not exciting news. Though I enjoy a number of Jet Li films, I'm more than a little iffy on this. Also, a small fact correction: Gong is her surname, not Li. |

That said, this will still probably suck. Like, the first one is B+, the second was C-....this one will probably be D level. |

TWO BIG THUMBS DOWN
This is what Li quit martial art films for? The Mummy 3? WTF! I saw the first Mummy and that was plenty enough for me. Not even Jet Li can get me to check out the 3rd installment. Not to mention that it will directed by the guy that did 'Stealth'. Seriously, has anyone seen that movie? Who gave that guy another job? |

WHY?WHY?WHY?
Why is Universal so retarted sometimes? The Mummy movies were popular because of the cast and their chemistry. Just like JP3, this movie will have a decent first weekend, followed by one hell of a nosedive in week 2. |

GOOD
I have always liked Li but not all of his movies, this is the kind of movie he should do. Or a sequel to Danny the Dog! |

OH, LI...
He makes good movies like "Unleashed" and "Hero", but then he goes and makes stupid choices, like, deciding to star in movies like "The Mummy 3". |
