Idris Elba and Johnny Whitworth in talks to join Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

So, might one of the Marvel projects Idris Elba (THOR, “The Wire”) was just talking about be Mark Neveldine & Brian Taylor’s GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE?

According to THR’s Heat Vision, apparently so. Along with actor Johnny Whitworth (GAMER, 3:10 TO YUMA), the British thesp is in negotiations to join the impending Nic Cage sequel. The two would be joining Cage and the recently cast Ciaran Hinds and Violante Placido.

UPDATE: Below it says that Whitworth plays a “criminal who is recruited by the devil…and is later turned into a demonic creature.” While this is all true, what we can tell you is that the demonic creature is someone Ghost Rider fans will be familiar with. After the devil (who in the film is called “Roark” in his human form) turns his powers on Whitworth’s character, Ray Carrigan, he turns him into Blackout. In the comics, his ability was limited to simply being able to cloak himself in darkness but in the film, he’ll be more like a walking black hole, able to suck the lifeforce and light out of humans with a mere touch.

Here’s Heat Vision with more:

“The story sees Johnny Blaze, aka Ghost Rider (Cage), hiding out in remote Eastern Europe and struggling to repress his curse. Blaze is recruited by a sect to take on the devil (Hinds), who wants to take over his mortal son’s body on the kid’s birthday.

Elba plays an alcoholic warrior monk tasked with finding Ghost Rider. Whitworth plays a criminal who is recruited by the devil to find the boy and is later turned into a demonic creature.”

While I’ve pretty much hated the idea of another GHOST RIDER based solely on the the first piece of shit from Mark Steven Johnson, I am however somewhat hopeful that CRANK guys Neveldine & Taylor will bring something interesting/entertaining to the table this time around. Also, this cast is not bad to best honest. Hinds? Elba? It might just surprise. Maybe.

GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE is set to begin production next month.
