Sofia Coppola’s remake of The Beguiled begins filming for June release

Sofia Coppola's remake of the 1971 Don Siegel / Clint Eastwood film THE BEGUILED is now filming in Louisiana, and along with the announcement that production is underway comes release details and the confirmation of a few more cast members.

Based on a novel by Thomas P. Cullinan, THE BEGUILED is set 

in a girls’ school in the state of Virginia in 1864. As the Civil War rages, The Miss Martha Farnsworth Seminary for Young Ladies has been sheltered from the outside world — until the day a wounded Union soldier is discovered nearby and taken in.

Colin Farrell will be playing the wounded soldier (filling in for Eastwood), with Nicole Kidman as the Head Mistress, Kirsten Dunst as a teacher, and Elle Fanning and Angourie Rice as students. Newly confirmed cast additions include Oona Laurence, Emma Howard, and Addison Riecke.

Focus Features will be releasing THE BEGUILED in select cities in the United States on June 23, 2017, with the theatre count expanding on June 30th. Universal Pictures International will be distributing the film around the world in the summer of 2017.
