Rob Zombie would remake Creature from the Black Lagoon

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Last October writer-director Rob Zombie participated in HDNet's 13 Nights of Halloween. I meant to tune in to the event but got sidetracked with other Halloween-related activities. Anyhow, at one point Zombie was asked a series of fun horror movie questions and I recently found the video.

In it, Zombie is asked tons of interesting questions – and the whole 18-minute video is a must-watch for fans – but what really stuck out to me was when he was asked which horror film he'd like to remake. And as you can tell for the headline of this article, Zombie says he'd be up for a remake of CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, specifically saying:

One thing I always thought was possible was to remake The Creature from the Black Lagoon. Because the creature itself, in that phenomenal suit they constructed, could be exactly the same. So I think Creature from the Black Lagoon could be a cool one.

You can watch the full video interview below, the part about this particular remake happens at 2:55. And for those of you out there that might not remember, the original film told the tale of:

Remnants of a mysterious animal have come to light in a remote jungle, and a group of scientists intends to determine if the find is an anomaly or evidence of an undiscovered beast. To accomplish their goal, the scientists (Antonio Moreno, Richard Carlson, Richard Denning, Whit Bissell) must brave the most perilous pieces of land South America has to offer. But the terrain is nothing compared to the danger posed by an otherworldly being that endangers their work and their lives.

I don't know about you, but I'd totally be down for a Rob Zombie directed remake of CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON. I'm not so sure the suit holds up as well as Zombie thinks it would, but all the same, with very few modifications, yes, Gill-Man could make the transition back to the silver screen fairly seamlessly. Let's hope this happens one day!

Until then, we can always sit back and get ready for Zombie's return to HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES and THE DEVIL'S REJECTS' Firefly Family with his upcoming sequel 3 FROM HELL, which is set to hit in early 2019.

My interpretation of Rob Zombie's Creature from the Black Lagoon.
