Plan 9 from Outer Space remake to invade VOD in February

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Writer/director John Johnson’s remake of Ed Wood’s 1959 “worst movie ever”/”so bad it’s good” cult classic PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE has been a long time coming. It was originally announced way back in 2008, a teaser trailer was shot for release on September 9, 2009 (09/09/09, you see?), and the feature finally went into production in 2011.

After almost ten years, Johnson’s labor of love is about to make its way out into the world, as Gravitas Ventures has picked up the distribution rights and will be releasing PLAN 9 onto VOD on February 16, 2016.

Gravitas will also be giving the film a DVD release 90 days after its VOD run.

Johnson’s take on Wood’s story has the following synopsis:

Plan 9 is the story of Nilbog, a small town with a big story – the beginning of an alien invasion! However, instead of lasers, space ships and epic force, these aliens have a different plan for the inhabitants of Earth – to resurrect the dead as their own army set with but one goal… to wipe out all of mankind! Only the towns folk on this Halloween night stand in the way of total domination. From the police department, to those trapped in a convenient store and even those trying to stay alive in the streets, this night will decide the fates of all who walk the planet who thought they were at the top of the food chain.

PLAN 9 stars Brian Krause, James Rolfe, Matthew Ewald, Camille Keaton, Addy Miller, Michael Christopher, Monique Dupree, Mr. Lobo, Angela Pritchett, Lana Young, and Conrad Brooks.

I’ve actually always thought, ever since my first viewing of PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE, that a remake of its core ideas would have some potential, so I’m interested in checking this one out.
