Get down with some robot fighting in Real Steel main-event trailer

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Doing my best to avoid a snide joke about how absurd REAL STEEL looks, I’ll simply pipe down and relay a new main-event video featurette for the film we have below. In it you’ll hear star Hugh Jackman describe the story’s premise and the conflicted character he portrays. Turns out that, even though his character can no longer box with other humans, though this new robot technology, he can basically control the actions of the fighter in the ring, Nintendo Wii style. And what do you know…redemption ensues!

Due October 7th, A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future where the sport of boxing has gone high-tech, “Real Steel” stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.

Evangeline Lilly (below), Anthony Mackie and Kevin Durand also play a vital role in the film.
