I thought it was strange when it was announced that Noomi Rapace wouldn't be returning to the PROMETHEUS sequel ALIEN: COVENANT, but I could never have guessed just how truly strange the casting for this movie would turn out to be. You see, Danny McBride is in talks to join Ridley Scott's cast.
To those who can't quite place that name, he's the guy from YOUR HIGHNESS. And PINEAPPLE EXPRESS. And THIS IS THE END. TROPIC THUNDER. HOT ROD. He's a funny guy. He has performed drama before, but a bit part in UP IN THE AIR and a spot on James Franco's self-indulgent Faulkner adaptation AS I LAY DYING don't exactly earn Ridley Scott status.
As stunning as this announcement is, it's also very intriguing. McBride is being given a chance a lot of comic actors would kill for, and I'm sure he can bring something truly unique to the role. He'd have to, or he'll never get this chance again. This will be something to keep an eye on, that's for sure.
In ALIEN: COVENANT:
Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
McBride will be joining Michael Fassbender and Katherine Waterston, who have already been confirmed.
