Back in November, the world caught a look at ROSA, an impressive sci-fi short film from Spanish comic book artist Jesus Orellana. At the time, Hollywood was jumping over itself to get in the Jesus Orellana business based solely on this impressive little effort, hoping it had found the next young visionary (not unlike what happened with Fede Alvarez, who made PANIC ATTACK and eventually took the helm of Ghost House’s EVIL DEAD remake). And lo and behold, today brings Mr. Orellana some very good news…
The Hollywood Reporter has it on good authority that 20th Century Fox is close to acquiring ROSA, which it plans on turning into a feature film. Not only that, but Orellana (who had zero directorial experience before the short) will helm the sci-fi epic. A screenwriter is now being sought to help Orellana through the complex process of transforming the 9-minute short into a full-length screenplay.
Rosa is an epic sci-fi short film that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where all natural life has disappeared. From the destruction awakes Rosa, a cyborg deployed from the Kernel project, mankind’s last attempt to restore the earth’s ecosystem. Rosa will soon learn that she is not the only entity that has awakened and must fight for her survival.
Check out the short below; we’ll keep you in-the-know on ROSA as more info shuttles our way.
