Freddy Krueger is back in high definition! Warner Home Video will release a Blu-ray double feature of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2: FREDDY’S REVENGE and A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3: DREAM WARRIORS on September 27. The cover art is pictured to the right.
They will be slapped together on one disc, so they will likely just be up-converted from the DVD transfers, and there probably won’t be any special features – but it’s better than nothing. I’m sure the remaining sequels will follow in a similar fashion if this release does well.
1985’s FREDDY’S REVENGE is directed by Jack Sholder and written by David Chaskin. It stars Mark Patton, Kim Myers, Robert Rusler, Marshall Bell and Robert Englund. A new family moves into the house on Elm Street, and before long, the kids are again having nightmares about deceased child murderer Freddy Krueger. This time, Freddy attempts to possess a teenage boy to cause havoc in the real world, and can only be overcome if the boy’s sweetheart can master her fear.
1987’s DREAM WARRIROS is directed by Chuck Russell, who co-wrote the script with Wes Craven, Frank Darabont and Bruce Wagner. It stars Heather Langenkamp, Patricia Arquette (below), Craig Wasson and Robert Englund. Picking up where the original Nightmare left off, Nancy has grown up and become a psychiatrist specializing in dream therapy. She meets a group of children at a local hospital facing Freddy Krueger, the same demon she once encountered in her sleep. One of them is Kristen, who has the power to draw other people into her dreams. Working with a male doctor assigned to the case, Nancy helps the kids realize their special abilities within the nightmare world. When Freddy captures one of her charges, she leads a rescue attempt into Krueger’s domain, in hopes of putting his spirit to rest once and for all.
