Guest off to Museum Jul. 1, 2008
Source: Hollywood Reporter
by: Mike Sampson

Christopher Guest and "Saturday Night Live" star Bill Hader have signed on to co-star in NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2, now operating under the subtitle BATTLE OF THE SMITHSONIAN. Guest will star as Ivan the Terrible while Hader will play General Custer. Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais and Owen Wilson are also all confirmed to be returning for the sequel. The newly announced cast join Ben Stiller, Amy Adams, Hank Azaria and Ed Helms in the sequel. Adams stars as Amelia Earhart, the love interest for Stiller's security guard Larry who gets moved to the Smithsonian. Director Shawn Levy and writers Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon (RENO: 911) are also returning for another go. While the first movie was as laughless as anything I've seen in recent memory, it piled up an impressive $574 million worldwide. And I'm a sucker for anything Amy Adams so I might bite the bullet and actually sit through this (with such a talented cast, how could it be so bad??). Filming on MUSEUM 2 is currently underway in Vancouver (Stiller and Adams reportedly already shot some scenes at the actual Smithsonian). The film is set for a May 22, 2009 release.

Extra Tidbit: I completely forgot that Guest was in A FEW GOOD MEN in a completely serious role.

The original wasn't exactly world beating, but it in itself was a fun family film by numbers. With the cast they have available to this one, I'm sure they will be making a better movie.

They'd better have the cowboys and the Roman's back.

IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY,
the original was released around the x-mas season, a prime time for sucessful family films. But I'm not sure if this movie will find as large an audience in the summer, with so many other movies coming out (ex: Transformers, Wolverine, terminator).

It's more of a family film than an actual "kids" film, but regardless I did enjoy it to a moderate extent and will probably check out the second one when it is released.

i didn't think it was laughless at all.. it was pretty cool actually, not bad for a kids movie.

i will be the first to admit that i liked the first film. after all it was a PG film. can't set the bar too high. it was just good fun and it was meant for kids.
