After the mediocre take at the box-office, GRINDHOUSE’s release in the UK is going to be held back as the Weinsteins and Momentum Pictures contemplate what the best course of action would be. On the one hand, this whole thing really surprises me, not because I thought the movies were amazing, but because I always thought that people will flock to the cinemas to see anything with Quentin Tarantino’s name on it. One the other hand though, it’s hardly surprising nowadays when an innovative movie comes along and gets owned at the box-office by a so-so comedy. Don’t get me wrong, I’d vote for Will Ferrell as the funniest man alive, but it’s saddening to see such an average comedy absolutely destroy what is probably the most inventive film experience of the year, if not the decade thus far. I don’t even want to mention the fact that ARE WE DONE YET? beat GRINDHOUSE at the box-office too, but I guess now I have and Atheists among as can welcome it as fairly weighty proof for their religious beliefs. Anyway, we’ll keep you UK readers updated on developments…
