Goyer talks Magneto

Way back when X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE still seemed like a good idea, there was another project that was thought to be in tandem with it, X-MEN ORIGINS: MAGNETO. But as one film went on to actually get made, the other fell by the wayside, for better or for worse. However, it seems MAGNETO might not be as dead as we all thought.

MTV recently spoke to screenwriter David Goyer who talked a bit about the upcoming X-projects, MAGNETO among them. “They’re still thinking about doing it…They’re definitely looking into doing other X-Men spinoffs…I’ve been in touch with them. I’m sure that project (Magneto) will move forward in the next year or so.”

Of course, Marvel is also going forward with DEADPOOL, FIRST CLASS and WOLVERINE GOES TO JAPAN, so what do you think are the chances this actually sees the light of day, even with Goyer’s statement? Magneto is not Wolverine, and I don’t believe there’s any sort of rabid fanbase clamoring for this. Presumably it would be an origin story, and therefore Ian McKellen would be nowhere to be found. I’m not opposed to a little more mutant Nazi wrecking from a young Magneto, but I definitely don’t think it warrants its own film. Do you?
