Goonies sequel ‘certain’

Or at least that’s what Sean Astin seems to think. “The writing’s on the wall when they’re releasing the [”Goonies”] DVD in such numbers”, he told MTV, which seems fairly flimsy to me, but I guess he would know a lot more than I do. More than that though, Astin talked a little about which direction the sequel would go in a bid to recapture some of the magic that the original had in spades. “Steven [Spielberg] and Dick [Donner] and all the powers that be … they really feel like the thing that made the movie strong was that it was about kids, so they really want to make the next movie about kids…the next generation of Goonies. And they’ve had a hard time tackling that.”

I actually really like sequels (I was even on board for Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker doing the exact same shit for a third time), but I don’t like this idea of the children of the original Goonies running the show, not unless Mikey, Mouth, Chunk and the rest of the dudes somehow get dragged into the whole adventure. I don’t know, I’m interested to see how this goes, but I really can’t see a sequel ever doing justice to the original. There was just something so magical about the whole thing.
