Fighter falling apart Oct. 13, 2008
Source: Playlist
by: Mike Sampson

Darren Aronofsky has what appears to be a critical and commercial success on his hands with the upcoming film THE WRESTLER. So why is he having such a hard time mobilizing his next film, another sports drama titled THE FIGHTER? Originally set to star Mark Wahlberg and Matt Damon, the film followed a boxer named Micky Ward and his right to a lightweight title with the help of his brother. Damon eventually left the project to be replaced by Brad Pitt. Wahlberg was training and things seemed to be going well. Not so much now. Aronofsky told The Playlist that Brad Pitt too has left the project (only the second time Pitt has left an Aronofsky film) and that they're "having problems casting." Wahlberg is out promoting MAX PAYNE and told Coming Soon that THE FIGHTER is "not even happening" despite the fact that he's filmed three movies since he's been training for the boxing film. With The Playlist saying the subject of THE FIGHTER was a "sore subject" for Aronofsky, it may be some time, if at all, before the film goes before cameras. Don't forget that Aronofsky recently signed a deal with MGM to reinvent the ROBOCOP franchise, which could very well be his next film.

Extra Tidbit: I'd much rather see THE FIGHTER than a ROBOCOP remake...

BRAD PITT OWES US AN EXPLANATION
I'm sick of Brad Pitt dropping out of Aronofsky's projects without giving the public a real explanation. This is the second time. It'd be nice for him to come out and say "I'm a dick I like to say I'm going to do a film then drop out". Honestly I didn't care about this movies subject at all but because Aronofsky was doing it I was willing to see it. I rather he do something else though. Just sucks this delay will probably mean a longer wait for another one of his films.

DELAY ROBOCOP!
OK so The Fighter was supposed to shoot this fall but (for reasons I don't know) filming was delayed. So Pitt took the lead for Inglorious Bastards instead. So why not have Pitt film The Fighter after Bastards and Wahlberg should be done with Cocaine Cowboys by then. The only problem with this scenario is it would delay Robocop which has a 2010 release date and I don't know if MGM is cool with that. He should do The Fighter then Robocop then Flicker and then Black Swan or Noah.

BRING IN HUGH JACKMAN AGAIN!
I love Brad Pitt, but that is just low-class. To leave another Aronofsky project like that, after he already almost ruined his masterpiece? Whatever, Aronofsky will find a good replacement ...

Oh, and Whalberg ... Say hi to ya mother for me, okay?

Does anyone remember Brad Pitt causing the unemployment of the entire crew of the Fountain when he was originally attached with C. Blanchett??? This guy's somewhat of a prick, aint he...

WHAT THE?
This is horrible news....I have been anticipating this movie ever since Joblo wrote about it. Plus it had some of my favorite actors in it including Damon, Wahlberg, and Pitt. I mean I was dissapointed when Damon left but with Pitt replacing him, I thought that this movie would be just as good with Pitt.

This is just horrible, horrible news considering that this movie sounded amazing and had so much talent going into it.

By the way, why is Brad Pitt ALWAYS leaving projects? First it was the Fountain, then State of Play, and now this. I mean Pitt is a great actor (and one of my favorite actors), but if he is going to leave a project then do not sign on in the first place.

My replacement picks for Pitt would have to be either Leonardo Dicaprio, Robert Downey Jr, Ryan Reynolds, or Christian Bale.

Make this movie happen Wahlberg.
