Favs wants Avengers?

We’re still a few months away from seeing IRON MAN and THE INCREDIBLE HULK come to cinematic life, but some people are already kicking around the idea of putting them into another movie together, along with a few other familiar Marvel costumes.

IRON MAN director and card-carrying comic fan Jon Favreau wouldn’t mind a shot at assembling THE AVENGERS. The original incarnation of the superteam featured Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man and the Wasp, with Captain America joining shortly after. But since Marvel’s characters — once scattered to various studios — are slowly gravitating back to their control, the logistics of such a gathering are not beyond the realm of possibility. In fact, rumor has it that the IRON MAN and INCREDIBLE HULK movies might share cameos from another Marvel character, SHIELD director Nick Fury.

I wonder if the tone of THE INCREDIBLE HULK is going to be similar or different than [IRON MAN],” Favreau ponders. “And CAPTAIN AMERICA is a twinkle in Marvel’s eye right now. And THOR and ANT-MAN.” (In case you didn’t know, SHAUN OF THE DEAD director Edgar Wright is attached to an ANT-MAN movie, and LAYER CAKE director Matthew Vaughn is making THOR, although that one may be drastically different from the character’s comic origins).

Favreau says not to fear a JUSTICE LEAGUE-style revamp, however: “In the case of Marvel they’re pretty clear on wanting to do it with the actors who’ve established the roles or to not do it at all. That’s what they’ve said to me. I think it’s a good idea if you use the characters established in the other franchises that then come together for an event. I don’t think they would do it like they’re doing JUSTICE LEAGUE where it’s a whole different set of actors and a whole different take on the world.
