Elm Street writer Jul. 23, 2008
Source: Hollywood Reporter
by: Dave Davis

Crazed child-loving killer Frederick C. Krueger (the C. is for Crispy) is coming back to haunt dreams, but outside whatever continuity previously existed for the character -- New Line is relaunching the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET series, and now has someone to tell the blade-fingered mind-flayer's story.

The studio has veteran screenwriter Wesley Strick working on the franchise restart, which will have a dark tone and "keep the high school setting and delve deeper in the psychology of nightmares and Kruger himself." I guess he's no longer merely the bastard son of a 100 maniacs. Perhaps they'll at least explain his curious affection for striped sweaters.

The studio wants to get the project rolling for release next year, to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Wes Craven's original (what better way to celebrate than by doing it all over again, only "better"?). Strick has previously worked on everything from ARACHNOPHOBIA and CAPE FEAR to, um... DOOM. No word yet on a director.

Extra Tidbit: My fave Krueger kill? Probably either the kid used like a puppet by his own extracted tendons, or the one who got merged with a motorcycle. Oh, that Fred, such a joker.

WHY NO ONE CAN STOP THEM?
I hope they´ll stop that projekt one day, like they did it with oldboy. How about a assignment against this movie?!

ANOTHER BAD IDEA!
It's official...Hollywood has run out of original material!!!!!!! Oh, wait - they ran out about 6 years ago. This is just a reminder!

This is gonna suck so much, why?? I really want an answer, why?? Why do this?? I'm really depressed about this, and it won't be the last pointless remake we will have to put up with

LIKE 'HALLOWEEN', A REMAKE OF THIS JUST DOESN'T FEEL RIGHT
.. and I knew RZ's "Halloween" was a bad idea from the get go, and this'll be too (mark my words!). I also thought all of the sequels to the original NOES were unnecessary, so what do I know?!

Unlike "Friday the 13th"-- which I don't mind being remade since it was a cash in series on the popularity of "Texas Chain Saw Massacre", "Halloween", "Black Christmas" and the like--, "Nightmare" (although it hasn't aged well) has a place in the history of horror cinema and horror fans hearts that just shouldn't be messed with. Like "Halloween", fans are doomed to be heart broken when this picture hits theaters. It may bring new fans (a new generation) into the fan base, but it'll take down many casualties with them. The first film was an original and imaginative spin on the slasher genre; I fear for the worst for this remake.

I'm starting to get annoyed with all these remakes. Unless a good one turns out, then I'm not really interested.

And yeah, there should really be new, worthy serial killers (unlike Jigsaw). Like, you know, scary ones.

THE ORIGINAL IS STILL GOOD.
why? why do this to freddy, the first one is still good and creepy. sure teh effects are cheesy, but the story is still awesome. besides, we all know that this new reimaging is not gonna be scary at all, but will use gore in order to try to get kids to come to this pg 13 peice of crap.

I don't really see the point of remaking this movie. Why not create new villains? People will say you have the original, I reply, why not watch the original and save some money. More than likely, the original will be better. Can't we get something original already? There are tons of spec scripts out there that are amazing, waiting to be made, instead we keep getting remakes.
