Dragonball first look May. 12, 2008
Source: D-B the Movie
by: James Thoo

By way of some wacky looking manga compilation called Shonen Jump, we have a first look at Justin Chatwin (THE INVISIBLE) as Goku in the upcoming movie adaptation of DRAGONBALL. The film will be directed by James Wong (FINAL DESTINATION) and sees Goku (Chatwin) set out to fulfill his grandfather's dying request that he find Master Roshi (Chow Yun-Fat) and the seven Dragon Balls, of which he has one. Emmy Rossum and James Marsters co-star.

To be completely honest, I think this could have been much, much worse. At least he isn't scissor-kicking a guy or pumping fireballs or something like that. But if this film doesn't tank massively at the box office I'll be flat-out stupefied.

Extra Tidbit: Ron Perlman was offered James Marsters role, but turned it down to do HELLBOY 2.

DOESN'T WORK YET.....
I'm not gonna' stab this movie with words right now, 'cause for all you know, it could turn out to be a fun flick at most. And although I've never followed Dragonball, I know enough to say that I agree with people when they say Goku wasn't Asian. He's alien so that makes Chatwin kinda okay for the role. Still, Chatwin looks too mild, and the story sounds too damn mediocre. Same ol' kung-fu / destiny crap stuffed down our throats with the only probable cool factor being the uber-cool fight scenes. Still, nothing about this flick has intersted me so far.

WOW
This movie will probably be a super-sized load of camel crap in a regular sized bag.

And as ridiculous as this movie idea is, to say that something like "American Bastardization", is pretty fukkin dumb. In case you didn't notice, (and you probably didn't) the taking of ideas has gone both ways. At least concerning american and japanese fiction. We took dragonball, godzilla and transformers, among others. And they took the highlander, witchblade, powerpuff girls, etc.

And Goku wasn't asian. He wasn't even human.

AMERICAN BASTARDIZATION
America claiming another property as their own by remaking the characters to be white. Besides the fact that you can't replicate crazy Asian hair with white people and a lot of gel, you also can't make this annoying kid into some kung fu master.

The idea is ridiculous, I never EVER thought I'd see a live version Dragonball. I really, REALLY would love to know how they got this script approved, that's some god damn great negotiating right there. How could anyone think this would be profitable?

I believe the word you were looking for was drivel...and well, since the last thing Perlman was in was Dungeon Siege, it wouldn't surprise me that he was considered for this.

That looks more like a picture of Peter Pan and tinkerbell.

I don't know the difference between dragonball, pokemon, digimon, or whatever else 12 year old's watch, but if the trailer impresses me i might check it out.

GOKU...
Isnt ASIAN! Hes a Saiyan , last time i checked Saiyans doesnt exist. Hes an alien, just because its a Japanese Manga doesn't mean all the characters are Japanese. Imma go check it out, hopefully the fight scenes are wild. I mean thats why people only watch this show.

DRAGON BALL NOT THAT BAD
I know allot of people are already bashing on this film, but I'm not going to be one of them, I'm going to wait to see an official poster or trailer and then start judging, one thing I'm pretty sure is, it'll probably make more money than SPEED RACER, just wait and see.
