Dawn of Dead 3D May. 19, 2008

DAWN OF THE DEAD We've seen slow zombies, fast zombies, learning zombies and pet zombies…how about 3D zombies? That's right, New Amsterdam Entertainment, the production company that holds the rights to George A. Romero's 1978 classic zombie film DAWN OF THE DEAD, have commissioned 3D company In Three to convert the iconic film to stereoscopic 3D. Now those zombies will really be coming'atcha! How the hell are they gonna do this for a film that's thirty years old? The process involves creating "a second camera image from a 2-D image [then] each frame is "dimensionalized," meaning that all objects are moved forward or backward from the screen or in relation to one another so as to achieve the desired dramatic effect." The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year with a release in theaters likely sometime next year.

Extra Tidbit: Anybody object to 3D zombies?

Yay. I am so excited for this. See that excited expression on my face? I can barely contain myself.

But seriously, I could give a shit about 3D movies (it's a gimmick - always has been, always will be), so color me completely apathetic. I'll take my Romero as is, thank you very much.

They should do the Zack Snyder version instead, since the camera work in that one was a little more intense and better suited for 3-D.

STAY SKEPTICAL
I've yet to see a 2D converted to 3D movie that has blown me away. The process has a number of limitations as to how much depth is in a scene before getting really expensive and I doubt they'll bank on "good" 3D when crappy 3D is a marketable enough gimmick. Until a perfectionist like Lucas takes ahold and does Star Wars I doubt we'll see a conversion done to blow our minds.

UH....
That's a long ass movie to be watching in 3D. I feel like the glasses would hurt a bit. It might be cool. I don't know. I'm blind.

MAYBE
Maybe it should be done with old school 3-D glasses (those red and blue ones)... just for the nostalgia...

Wow...didn´t see that one coming.
I say: Why not!? Let the 3-D madness begin!
