Tom Cruise recently acquired the rights to Bryan Singer’s next film for his United Artists studio that he’s trying to get off the ground. It turns out Cruise liked the project so much he’s not just producing it, he’s gonna star in it as well. Singer was able to convince Cruise to take a starring role in the still untitled WWII thriller. When we last spoke, little was known about the film but precious few details have leaked out. The film reportedly will follow German generals plotting an assassination attempt against Adolph Hitler at the height of his power. The script was written by Academy Award winner Christopher McQuarrie, Singer’s collaborator from THE USUAL SUSPECTS. My favorite line from the announcement is that “United Artists has set Tom Cruise to star” in Singer’s film. Considering that United Artists IS Tom Cruise, it’s basically Tom Cruise setting himself to star in a film. “Hey Tom the Actor? It’s me, Tom the Studio Chief. Would you like to star in this Bryan Singer movie? You would? Great!” Singer’s WWII film is UA’s second production and the second straight that Cruise has opted to star in. The first, LIONS FOR LAMBS, is set for release on November 9th and co-stars Robert Redford and Meryl Streep.
