Choke on this poster May. 21, 2008
Source: Fox Searchlight
by: Ben Barna

Why Chuck Palahniuk movie adaptations don’t happen more often, I’ll never know. Wait, that’s not true, I do know why. It’s because FIGHT CLUB did so horribly and hasn’t gone down as a modern-day classic. Get with it guys. The good news is that IMDb says that INVISIBLE MONSTERS is in production, and if that isn’t enough to get you excited, then this fall you can go see another Palahniuk adaptation, CHOKE. Below is the film’s teaser poster, courtesy of Fox Searchlight. I love the jazzy, modern design of this, but it doesn’t quite capture the feel of the book. Maybe because this is the movie, and not the book. It was nominated for the Grand Jury prize at Sundance, and stars Sam Rockwell (as you can tell from the silhouette), Angelica Huston, Kelly McDonald, and is directed by Clark Gregg.

Extra Tidbit: Fox Searchlight purchased CHOKE for 5 million at Sundance.

WELL...
... the poster's cool, but from the clips I've seen I'm going to keep my expectations low for the film so I'm not too disappointed. Fincher set the bar pretty high, and I consider Fight Club the movie to exceed the book in goodness, which is pretty rare. Don't think that will be the case with Choke though, which is too bad because it's my favorite of his novels. Like many of you I'd like to see Survivor on the big screen, or any of his novels, but only if they can do it right. Hopefully I'm wrong about the choke adaption overall.

Also, his newest novel "Snuff" came out this week, so get to a bookstore and pick it up.

NICE
Pretty cool looking poster I gotta say. I hope the movie holds up to the book. Sam Rockwell is pretty money though, so I guess we'll see.

Choke looks like it will be good, the comedy in the book is fantastic, and Im as excited as the next guy just for the fact that a Palahniuk book is making it to the big screen.

But the one Chuck Palahniuk book Id really love to see turned into a movie is Survivor. Either that or Lullaby. Somebody get them made!!!

NOW JUST GIVE US A TRAILER
Not surprised that most people don't get Palahniuk's work. Its so unlike most fiction most readers can't wrap their heads around it. It goes against the conventions of what most creative writing teachers will tell you about good writing, yet still is fun as hell to read.

I've been waiting forever for this, though I'll agree with JayBro7 that I'd prefer a film adaptation of Survivor instead. Still, Choke is closer to the dark sense of humor that made Fight Club such a fun read. So give us a trailer and a official release date (I'm not sure how official is August 1st...is that a wide release date or what?).

Hm...I hated Fight Club the movie. So I read the book. Then I realized with that as the source material the movie couldn't have been good.

Palahniuk is so pretentious and self important and pretty much writes the same book every time. I think I'll pass.

Oh, as far as the poster goes, I guess it is neat-ish.

Actually, Fight Club to me is considered a Cult Classic. It did NOT get good reviews when it came out and it actually didnt really do all that great at the box office either. Wether Ben was being sarcastic or not, he's right; the reason we havent had any Chuck adaps since Fight club is because Fight Club didnt do all that great. Sure we all love it here, but thats because we get it. A lot of people didnt get it when it came out. Cant wait for Choke But Id rather see SURVIVOR!!

Chuck wrote the same book about four times, but this is by far his best novel. So excited for this.

yeah, sarcasm seems to play a huge role on this website (and not to mention.. ah fuck! what's that thing called?.. OH YEA! LIFE!). get with it broham.

this movie should fucking rock. rockwell has been kicking ass since GALAXY QUEST and CONFESSIONS. and if any fan of dark comedy doesn't have a boner for ms. huston, than they don't have a penis. or they are dead, and in that case i apologize.
