Steve Buscemi, Ray Liotta, Jean Smart and M. Emmett Walsh (THE JERK) have all signed on to star alongside Michael Cera in the upcoming comedy YOUTH IN REVOLT. Based on the book by CD Payne, REVOLT will star Cera as Nick Twisp, a sex-obsessed teen dealing with his mother’s boyfriends and a girl of his dreams he meets while on vacation. Buscemi will play Cera’s birth father with Smart playing his mother. Liotta and Walsh will each play future boyfriends of the mother, Liotta a “fascist” police man who frames Twisp for arson. It all sounds pretty good but I’m concerned a little that Cera, who turns 20 in a few weeks, will be playing a 14-year-old. Perhaps they’ve aged the character to be a senior in high school instead of a freshman. REVOLT will film this July with Miguel Arteta (THE GOOD GIRL) directing. Liotta is currently filming OBSERVE AND REPORT with Cera’s SUPERBAD co-star Seth Rogen. Sadly Dimension Film is distributing the film so who knows when we might actually see it.
