Burton found Alice! Jul. 24, 2008
Source: Hollywood Reporter
by: Mike Sampson

You know it had been toiling away so quietly in the background for months now that I almost completely forgot about Tim Burton's ALICE IN WONDERLAND. For those, like me, who almost forgot, the film will be a combination of live-action and mo-cap animation that will be presented in 3-D (commence drooling). But today's exciting news is that Burton has found his Alice! And it's not Sarah Michelle Gellar! Her name is Mia Wasikowska, a young Australian actress who's currently starring in HBO's "In Treatment." She's certainly cute and has a very Alice look so kudos to Burton for finding a unknown actress to fit the part (looks a bit like a young Gwyneth Paltrow, no?)! I'd love to be able to get my hands on Linda Woolverton's script for the film to see exactly what Burton is planning. Whatever it is, I'm sure it doesn't involve (now THAT is too creepy even for Tim Burton). Filming on ALICE is expected to begin this November. With Disney expected to have a "big surprise" at their Comic-Con panel this weekend, me wonders if anything ALICE IN WONDERLAND will pop up?...

Extra Tidbit: BTW, I'm just speculating - I have no idea whether Burton's ALICE will be presented. But there WILL be a surprise...

Burton should be making a hard-PG-13 dark Alice movie, not a Disney movie. :z

MIRRORMASK
I wonder if it will resemble Mirrormask?
Burton is a great director and if he sticks to the books the film could be awesome. The books are dark, so should the film.

HESITANT
If they stray from the tones of Disney's animated version and he doesn't inject a lot of plastic into it (like charlie...) it might work out. The PoTC trilogy was good by me but Disney has a ways to go before I'll trust the name on anything.

I hope it does and they give Burton the reigns on the sequel. The weirdness factor of 'looking glass' needs his touch if it's to be made at all.

Kinda look like Gwyneth Paltrow / Michelle Trachtenberg.

Damn, and here I was thinking Johnny Depp would be cast as Alice.. Oh well. Hopefully Burton will make a beautiful fantasy film like only he can.

BURTON'S ALICE
I can't wait for Tim Burton's return, and I'm anxious to see his take on this classic tale,I like the casting choice for Alice.

Frankenweenie will be Tim Burton's next project with Disney and I seriously can't wait for that!

CHARLIE CHOCO
it wasn't the most terrible movie of all time or anything but i was such a fan of the first one, and gene wilder who is one of the most talented actors of all time.

i knew it would be more along the lines of the book, but it just seemed a little over the top to me...and don't get me started on the oompa loompas. it just didnt feel like a burton movie to me.

Well, I'd still rather see an actual Brit in the role (and why hasn't Terry Gilliam ever directed an Alice movie? 'Cause, damn, that would've been perfect).

But at least this Alice isn't, in reality, some some 20-or-30something Yank.

[COUGH]SarahMichelleGellar[/COUGH].

So, for the moment, I'd say I'm cautiously optimistic.

Tim Burton and Alice in Wonderland sound like a perfect combination.

Beatrixkiddo, I second that motion. Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was awful. But I might have been a little bias because I was against remaking it altogether.
