Leonard the sculptor has a few deeply seated issues, as he is psychotic. He busts out of an institution, and meets a priest along the way. He heads to a new town and assumes the role of the priest, one who is pitting people against one another and trying to run lives.
The Confessional has really taken me by storm, and I can honestly say that this is my kind of movie. Here’s why things worked for me- first of all, this movie has a brain in its head and takes the time to actually develop its cast of characters. Some people might consider this to take up a lot of time and drag things down, but I was hooked enough and never really considered this film to have many dull moments along the way.

Filmed on a shoestring budget, I was also impressed by the way the film looked. Obviously our filmmakers know their stuff and really managed to take ten dollars and make it look like a million. I really thought this one was shot quite well. The biggest props have to go to Peter Quartaroli, who plays Leonard, our twisted antagonist who turns a small town on its head. The man is entrancing and completely believable, adding a nuanced and intelligent performance to a film that absolutely depends on it.

The story in this flick was quite well done too, although some people might be turned off by the whole ‘did that just happen or is that guy just crazy’ sort of style that permeates the script. The film feels like a Hitchcock classic and really just sits you in your seat and forces seems you to do something that rare these days- think.

I don’t want to give anything else away, but as I mentioned I really liked this flick. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the ending, but that didn’t take a lot away from my enjoyment of the movie. This is a real portrait of a tortured soul who really is evil for evil’s sake.
Seek this flick out- you won't regret it. The Confessional looks great, has a good cast, and manages to be entrancing, dark and unsettling the entire time.
